Zach Paisker graduated from 8th grade last spring - and it didn't take him long to be recognized at his new high school as a noteworthy student. Early in the fall quarter at Riverside-Brookfield High School he was awarded with the Student of the Month Award. Congratulations, Zach! |

Our Fall Festival was held on Friday, October 29, after school. Students got to dress in costumes, have a parade around the block, play games and have some special treats. Thank you to the teachers and parents who volunteered their time to organize this event! |

An internationally-acclaimed author and speaker, Dr. Larry Koenig, traveled from Baton Rouge to present Smart Discipline for parents on the evening of October 25. His presentation was filled with humorous anecdotes and practical information for parents wanting to help their children grow to be happy and successful in school and life.
Dr. Koenig demonstrated Smart Discipline provides children with simple and effective consequences, even as he showed how praise is an essential part of helping children develop into happy and successful adults. His website is filled with many helpful suggestions such as this article on Disciplining the Difficult Child.
School parents who are interested in additional material for improving discipline at home and school may contact the school office which has copies of such publications as Smart Discipline and Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours.
Heb 12:6-8 tells us: "The Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son. Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined--and everyone undergoes discipline--then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all." |

We thank Dr. Dennis Kent for his recent visit to Mrs. Pygman's class. He showed the children the latest in dental technology. From the interest the children showed, it's possible that one of them might be checking out our teeth someday. |

School was closed on Friday, October 7, so that the teachers could have a faculty inservice day. The teachers enjoyed an hour-long presentation by Susan Dahl in the Fermilab's teacher resource center which is full of science and math curriculum resources and materials.
Besides being the site of significant particle physics discoveries, the Fermilab now sponsors prairie restoration field trips. The particle accelerator is in the process of being decommissioned and students will be able to visit the control center sometime after next June provided that the teachers take a special course.
In November the faculty will be going to a Google Apps for Education conference as we look forward to the use of technology in the classroom for many years to come at St. Paul's Lutheran School |
